Girl With a Pearl Earring

‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’  was painted in the year 1665 by the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. This Oil on Canvas work is considered the first globally known masterpiece by the artist. Most of Vermeer’s paintings was of domestic internal spaces, this painting being one of the few exceptions.  This painting remained obscure for decades, it was only in the year 1882 that the painting was re-discovered. The painting is popularly known as the Dutch Monalisa because of her calm and elegant beauty perhaps.
