This tutorial shows how to make a cute refrigerator magnet using self hardening clay. This ladybug magnet is easy to shape and paint…so you could give it a shot!
How to make a ladybug magnet using clay:
Make a ball out of self hardening clay (Shilpkar clay has been used for this project). Alternatively polymer clay can be used.
Make the base oval / dome shape of the lady bug by flattening one side of the ball as shown.
Make a smaller piece for the head and attach the two pieces together.
Using a toothpick or string, make a vertical line at the center of the body of the bug while the clay is still a bit soft and moldable.
Allow the model to air dry for half hour or so.
We start to paint using acrylic colors… first the body of the bug.
…Followed by painting the head, the spots and eyes.
Allow the paint dry.
Flip the model.
Apply a coat of clear varnish.
Note : If Polymer clay is used, it has to be baked so that the model hardens. If it is M Seal or Shilpkar Hobby clay, then it will air dry and harden.
