Origami Cap

Here is how you can make a paper cap using the technique of Origami.

The size of the paper used here is 8″ X 8″ for the purpose of demonstration. You would need a bigger sheet of paper if you actually want to use the cap!

How To fold a paper cap:

Before we start, most of the images in the steps here are self explanatory. So the instructions in text are minimal.
Step 1:
Take a square sheet of paper.

Step 2:

The paper is folded in half along the diagonal.

Step 3:

Tilt the paper as shown and fold the top to meet the bottom side of the triangle.

Step 4:

Lift the right corner upwards to meet the top horizontal hold and press well. A crease should be made.

Step 5:

Repeat the above step for the left side.

Step 6:

Open up the folds and lift the flap up.

Step 7:

With the flap up, fold the sides in.

Step 8:

Step 9:

Now bring this folded inner flap down.

Step 10:

Flip.

Step 11:

Bring the flap down and press.

Step 12:

Turn the model upside down.

Step 13:

Open up along the pocket at the bottom.

Step 14:

Fold the bottom edges outward as shown.

Step 15:

Now fold the top edges. Once the top edges are shaped, this is how the inside of the cap would look.

Step 16:

Shape up the edges further till you get this structure.

You could make these caps in different color papers and customize it with the initials of your kid written on it. Nice jazzy cap made using shiny paper or gift wrappers look funky and can be done for kids parties too.

I was thinking…. have to try making this model using some kind of stiffened fabric and see how it turns out. A fabric cap done using origami should be cool I guess!
