How to apply Embroidery effects to Images

This tutorial will show you how to enhance and modify photographs and other images to obtain an embroidered pattern using the Filter option available in Photoshop.

For this tutorial, I have chosen the below image to get the desired cross stitch embroidered patchwork pattern.

Step 1: Open the chosen image in Photoshop.

Step 2: Go to the top menu bar and chose Filter –> Patchwork

Step 3: Under Texture, it is seen that the Patchwork option is selected.

The below image is shown.

Step 4: Use the right hand pane to modify and make necessary changes to the image and get the Cross stitch pattern look.

The square size could be more on the higher side to get clear patches and the relief option could also be changed as required.

Step 5: Once the changes are made, hit the ‘OK’ button. The final image is as shown below.

When this image is framed, it can make a great wall hanging which looks like a typical embroidered cross stitch pattern.
