Water color painting is one the painting techniques which is widely used. This type of painting is a favorite of many art enthusiasts since it is helpful to learn the nuances of painting and also explore with a variety of strokes and textures.

Water colors are water soluble paints which are mixed with water using brushes and painted on a canvas.

The paints are diffused in water and then the strokes are made. These paints have staining properties which causes the paint to stay on after drying up. An enhancement which is usually done in watercolor paints is pouring or blotting color on the painted image. This color is less dilute than the paint used for the overall image.

Water colors are usually available in around 12 – 20 key colors and the other required colors are obtained by mixing these colors in required combinations in a palette.

There are various types of brushes which are used for water color painting. The commonly used brushes are round brushes which are available in varied sizes.

Water color pastels and pencils are also used by artists to draw more fine details and also for making sketches. Water color pastels are available in attractive forms and these can be easily used by kids for painting. These are less messy and can be used for painting in coloring books as well!
