A quilt consists of layers of fabric or any other soft material stitched together to make a type of bedding. Quilts are generally used either for bedding or for decorative purposes. Quilts made for decorative purposes, such as wall hanging are generally more artistic and make have embroidery or other designs made on them.

Quilts from each region is different and based on the place where it is made, the fabric and the stitching used could all be different.

In order to do the embroidery stitching on decorative quilts, specific sewing machines are used these days. The process of stitching quilts is also done mostly using machines since the thickness of the layers makes hand stitching difficult.

Scrap quilts which are made of different pieces of left over fabric put together, have gained lot of interest among people. Such quilts have a more colorful and artistic appeal than the regular quilts with a symmetric design.

Scrap quilts could be made for kids since they are quite attractive and would be liked by kids. Once the scrap quilt is made with pieces stitched together, embroidery could be made with a desired type of stitch in order to add the little extra to the quilts.
